Architects are skilled in a variety of tools, methods and technologies. We have wide and applicable knowledge about building processes, including project coordination, building codes, schedules and budgets. Most importantly, architects are highly creative, and passionate about designing quality spaces!

The Value of Play

Architects at Play is a non-traditional architectural firm. We are, first and foremost, a gathering of friends devoted to play! Our small practice is a "one-stop shop," as we are talented and experienced in various skillsets, and have a large network of collaborators to work alongside. Our size allows us to be more flexible and more affordable than larger firms, and we value long-standing relationships with our clients.

How We Live

The place where we live, our home, is the one piece of architecture of which we have the most intimate knowledge.  For many of us, the home is where the heart is. The home is where we feel most safe, comfortable, and intimate. It is where we create memories filled with love, laughter, and tears. It is a space of rest and contemplation. It is where we work, play, and enjoy the company of friends and family. It is where dreams are made.

How We Work

In a world where time is money, productivity is key, and the grunt of 9-5 is the norm, we believe in a work environment that is safe, fun, efficient, and profitable. The workplace plays an essential role in each of our lives. Therefore, it is important that we strive to make spaces that encourage creativity, support diversity, and bring happiness. We believe that human-centred design is the key to achieving this.

How We Play

From the time we were young, we've loved designing the environments that surround us, not just the spaces we occupy, but also the objects we engage with. We've designed planters, toys, stage sets and props, signs, tables, desks, chairs, logos, books, businesses, costumes, light fixtures, sheds, decks, golf courses, playgrounds, clothing, climbing walls, and so much more.

How We Educate

The design of educational spaces should reflect the needs of the learner experience. We believe that the classroom is as much a teaching tool as a book or a computer, and as much thoughtfulness and care should be given to its design. Traditional educational systems are undergoing a shift in the mindset and delivery of learner-centred curriculum, and the learning environment should be reimagined to support this endeavour.

How We Collaborate

We play well with others. In fact, collaborating with other professionals in a diverse band of industries gets our heart rates going (in a good way). We've worked with artists, photographers, videographers, industrial designers, fabricators, and even dancers to produce work in a variety of media. We believe that working with skilled and passionate people brings depth to our firm and broadens our service offerings.

How We Engage

Even before we began our little practice, we believed that we could make a difference, not just through architecture, but also by being involved in the Winnipeg community. We care about our city, we care about our neighbours, and we care about our children (cheesy, we know... but true). That's why we don't hesitate to get involved in things near and dear to our hearts. Whenever we have the opportunity to support our community, it pushes us to find ways to take action.
